This is the call out for a special general membership meeting to be held on Tuesday, November 13th, 2018 for nominations and elections of the bargaining committee members for this next round of negotiations.
Our contract expires on June 30th, 2019 and to date, both the union and the university have discussed starting bargaining on many occasions. We would like to get started as quickly as possible in the new year. The mandate for this round of bargaining has already been set by several BC bargaining tables so we know that we are already looking at a three year contract with 2% for each of the three years.
This means we free up discussions for some things that we really need to address – language in our Collective Agreement.
The Bylaws and our Collective Agreement state that there will be three seats for the bargaining committee, paid for by the employer: the President and two others elected by the membership.
At our last general membership meeting in October, a motion was passed by the membership to have a fourth seat at the bargaining table joining the three seats outlined in our Collective Agreement and Bylaws.
As such, we will be nominating and electing three members of the membership to serve as Bargaining Committee team members for the duration of bargaining in 2019 negotiations.
