Management cancelled Labour Management Meeting at last minute

For months now we have had a labour management meeting scheduled. Time was booked off from our jobs and at the last moment management cancels, saying they are too busy and need to work on other things. I wish we could report this is the first time they have done this, but it isn't. This shows a total lack of respect and contempt to our membership. It not only violates the intention of having a working relationship but also our collective agreement, where the meeting frequency is spelled out. Next Read more [...]

The issue comes up when the government changes and the next one strips any gains or important and beneficial legislation. I know it is hard to believe that a government wouldn't do what is best for the people ! The following article explains the ramifications and why we seek to transfer legislation directly into our collective agreement. https://cupe.ca/protect-labour-reforms-bargaining-table Read more [...]

Citing ‘dishonest communications,’ CUPE 3903 files three unfair labour practices complaints against York University

The Union representing striking academic workers at York University has filed an unfair labour practices complaint with the Ontario Labour Relations Board against their employer. The complaint, filed late yesterday afternoon by CUPE 3903, alleges that York University violated three sections (Sections 17, 70 and 73) of Ontario’s Labour Relations Act, by misrepresenting their own and the Union’s bargaining positions in both their communications to CUPE 3903 members and to the public. Over 800 administrative, technical, and library workers at the university have been striking since March 4 to defend their pensions. Carleton management has been trying to water down pension language during bargaining, but CUPE members have been holding the line. CUPE leaders from across Canada, in Ottawa Read more [...]

Solidarity on display as York University Academic workers strike

After six months of fruitless bargaining, 3,000 academic workers at York University, members of CUPE 3903, are on strike for less. Less precarious employment and less of a university system that is far too reliant on short-term, precarious work with little to no stability or predictability. As strike action commenced on Monday morning, CUPE 3903 Chair and CUPE Ontario President Fred Hahn urged the Provincial Government to ask why York University seems more interested in more.
